Sophie Renae is a Sydney based Actor, Producer & Director.
Sophie moved to Sydney from her hometown of Adelaide in 2011 after being granted acceptance into an Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts at the Actors Centre Australia (ACA).
In 2013 Sophie left the Actors Centre Australia to travel throughout Europe for 6 months. One of those months was spent in London, where she took a full-time screen acting course at the prestigious MET Film School, based within Ealing Studios.
Upon returning to Australia, Sophie auditioned and was accepted into an Advanced Diploma of Acting for Contemporary Screen Media at the International Screen Academy (ISA); she graduated in August 2016.
In addition to her full-time training, Sophie has also taken part in several short courses, such as Ted Brunetti's Audition Workshop, West Side Actors Studio Masterclass’ (run by Doris Younane & Jonathan Mills, with guest tutors Peter Andrikidis & Dustin Clare), South Australian Casting’s 3-year acting course and several of NIDA's holiday programs.
She was shortlisted in the 'Star Now Global Curve Model Search' in 2016 & 2017, and was also shortlisted to the top 15 for South Australia in the 'Dolly Magazine - Neighbour's Search for a Star' competition in both 2006 and 2008.
As part of her training at ISA, Sophie saw her first short-film, Paper Thin, from initial concept through to completion, working as a co-writer, director and actor. She also crewed on her peers’ short films, The Invincibles, The World They Left Us and Father by the Son. Additionally, Sophie worked as an actor and producer on Tortured Souls, a short film by award-winning director, Michael Bates.
Since graduating from ISA, Sophie has wrapped on two short-films; Footsteps, written and directed by Carrie Li, where she played the lead role of Lily; and My Year With Suicide, written and directed by Jayden Dickman, where she played the supporting role of Mia. She was also cast in the HTC Vive Hype Reel (VR), directed by Mark Grentell, where she performed opposite award-winning actor Anthony Brendan Wong.
Although Sophie was initially focused on acting, it was during her time at the International Screen Academy that her passion for producing & directing, along with other creative roles within the Film & TV Industry, was also realised.
When not working in front of the camera, Sophie can be found either crewing on a film set, photographing things that fascinate her, teaching a drama class or passionately producing her own screen content. Sophie has recently been working for Beyond Productions as an Associate Producer on Wow! That’s Amazing, a new children’s science TV series for ABC/RTL (Germany); and prior to that, as a Location Coordinator on Deadly Intelligence for Discovery Science (USA) and Deadly Women for Investigation Discovery (USA).
Currently Sophie is working as a freelance Actor and Producer. She is passionate about creating her own screen content and has several exciting projects in the pipeline.
